Hagrama Mohilary, chief of the Bodoland People’s Front and a key leader in the BTC region, addressed a massive rally at Fakiragram on Monday. Held at the Old Market ground, the event witnessed a large turnout from the Parbatjhora and Baokhungri constituencies. Mohilary campaigned in support of BPF candidates Dr Rezaul Karim and Rupam Ray, urging voters to back the NDA alliance.
Addressing the gathering, Mohilary expressed strong confidence that the NDA would form the government and claimed that the alliance would win all 15 seats in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region. He also asserted that no political party in Assam has the strength to challenge the combined force of the BJP, AGP and BPF.
On sensitive issues, Mohilary stated that although political statements may differ outside BTC, people in the region have not heard Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma making remarks against minorities within BTC. He maintained that there is a strong understanding between the BPF and the BJP.
Speaking to the media, Mohilary predicted that the BPF would win 11 seats, while the BJP would secure four in the BTC region. He further claimed that parties like the UPPL and Congress do not have the strength to mount a serious challenge in the council.
Mohilary said he has already toured eight constituencies and received a positive response from voters, adding that he would begin visiting the remaining seats from Tuesday.
In a boost to the BPF, several workers from Congress, UPPL, AIUDF and BJP joined the party during the rally.
Senior leaders, including BTC executive members, were also present at the event, which saw participation from thousands of supporters.
