Sarma Claims Growing BJP Support, Sets ‘Double Century’ Target in Bengal

Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday made a series of political statements during a public address in Alipurduar, commenting on migration, voting trends, and electoral dynamics in the region.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that individuals who have come from Bangladesh should refrain from voting for him. He also noted that Indian Muslim voters have provided notable support to the Bharatiya Janata Party, contributing significantly to the party’s vote share.

Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, Sarma said the BJP is aiming for a “double century” of seats in West Bengal and a “century” in Assam.

In separate remarks made on April 18, he responded sharply to Mamata Banerjee over her “outsider” comment targeting political opponents. He rejected the claim, arguing that leaders from different states routinely campaign across the country.

“How are we, outsiders? Even she comes to Assam and her party contests elections here. This kind of hypocrisy will not work,” Assam CM said while addressing reporters during an election rally.

He further criticised Banerjee, alleging that she often refers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in her speeches.
