Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday alleged that the ruling Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is imposing conditions on beneficiaries seeking access to welfare schemes. He said that if a Congress-led opposition alliance comes to power, such preconditions would be removed.
“We can see how the BJP government tries to dominate women. There were many government schemes before the BJP came to power, but never was there an attempt to force the people of Assam, especially women, to align with a political party to avail benefits,” Gogoi said.
He referred to specific programmes, adding, “There was never any hidden interest behind taking the Mamoni scheme, Majoni scheme, Baideo scheme, or schemes for Asha workers and Anganwadi workers. We have to work together to end the politics of fear and threats propagated by the present regime led by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.”
Gogoi also cited popular singer Zubeen Garg to emphasise his point, saying, “As Zubeen Garg said, we want the people of Assam to be full of pride and unequivocal.”
