Twin Brothers Drown Amid Goru Bihu Celebrations in Goalpara

Amid the festive celebrations of Goru Bihu, a tragic incident overshadowed the occasion in Goalpara, where two minor twin brothers drowned in the Krishnai River on April 14.

The incident took place at Bhojmala in Krishnai when the two boys had gone to bathe cattle as part of the traditional Goru Bihu rituals. The deceased have been identified as Dipankar Nath and Debashish Nath, both Class 9 students and residents of Tengabari village.

According to reports, the twins went missing while bathing cattle in the river, causing panic among locals.

A search operation was launched immediately, with a team from the State Disaster Response Force reaching the spot to carry out rescue efforts. Following an intensive search, the bodies of both brothers were recovered from the river.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, turning what is usually a day of celebration and cultural significance into one of grief and mourning for the family and the community.
