Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Himanta Biswa Sarma, has strongly responded to allegations made by Congress leader Pawan Khera regarding multiple foreign passports and undisclosed assets.
Taking to X, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma rejected the claims and the documents circulated by Khera, describing them as fabricated and accusing him of spreading misinformation without proper verification. In a sarcastic remark, she said even the alleged AI-generated and photoshopped materials lacked credibility and basic due diligence.
“Aapki sirf tapasya mein hi nahi, AI generation aur photoshopping mein bhi kami reh gayi,” she wrote.
“I expected a spokesperson of a national party to exercise basic due diligence, rather than circulate poorly fabricated images of imaginary passports and documents. I will now be letting the law take over. Criminal charges are being initiated. We can continue this in court,” she added.
Her response came after Khera, during a press conference at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma holds passports from three countries—Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and Antigua and Barbuda—raising questions over potential violations of Indian citizenship laws.
Khera also claimed that she owns properties in Dubai that were not disclosed in the Chief Minister’s election affidavit and referred to a US-based company, Asset Collective LLC, allegedly linked to Sarma and his son, with significant investment plans. He called for an investigation by the Election Commission and sought clarity from the government.
Soon after the allegations surfaced, Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed them as “malicious” and “fabricated,” announcing that both he and his wife would initiate civil and criminal defamation proceedings against Khera within 48 hours.
The Chief Minister said the allegations reflect “desperation” within the Congress ahead of the Assam Assembly elections 2026 and asserted that the matter would be addressed in court. He also expressed confidence that the truth would emerge through legal proceedings.
