Akhil Gogoi Predicts BJP Losses, Eyes 33–36 Seats for Opposition

Akhil Gogoi of the Raijor Dal launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Asom Gana Parishad leadership while campaigning in Upper Assam, claiming that the political momentum in the region is shifting against the alliance.

Addressing an election rally in Sivasagar, Gogoi said that the coming together of key regional forces has begun to put pressure on the BJP-led alliance. In a sarcastic remark targeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, he claimed that the opposition has created enough tension for the CM during Assembly sessions.

Expressing confidence ahead of the elections, Gogoi asserted that parties opposed to the BJP would win between 33 and 36 seats in Upper Assam, leaving the ruling party with only a few. He added that people in the region are now keen to see a Chief Minister from Upper Assam.

Gogoi also strongly criticised Assam minister and AGP leader Atul Bora, accusing him of neglecting regional interests. He alleged that Bora has weakened the AGP and compromised Assam’s interests in favour of Delhi, claiming the party has lost its original identity under his leadership.

Taking aim at the seat-sharing arrangement, Gogoi alleged that the BJP has sidelined its allies in key constituencies. He further claimed that leaders like Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta could face defeat in the upcoming elections.
