A government employee deployed on election duty lost his life, while three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Assam’s Dhubri district on Monday morning.
The accident took place at Matiabag in Gauripur along National Highway 17, when a vehicle carrying election materials collided head-on with a truck. The four-wheeler was travelling from Guwahati to Dhubri and was transporting poll-related supplies at the time of the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Romeo Ghosh, a senior assistant at the Chapar Circle Office and a resident of Tulsibil in Sapatgram. He died on the spot due to the severity of the collision.
Among the injured is Shashi Bhushan Rajkonwar, Circle Officer of Chapar, along with two others. All three suffered serious injuries and were immediately taken to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Police personnel from Gauripur reached the spot soon after the accident, secured the area, and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
