A routine ATM balance check turned into a moment of shock in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district after a woman found nearly Rs 10 crore credited to her bank account, raising concerns over a possible banking error.
The woman holds an account with the Bank of India. According to her family, an amount of Rs 9,99,49,586 suddenly appeared in the account, leaving them stunned.
ATM Check Leaves Family Stunned
Her son, Arun Kumar, said he had visited an ATM to generate a PIN and check the balance when the unusually large sum showed up on the screen.
“I checked the balance and it was very high, around Rs 9 crore. We don’t know whose money it is,” he said, adding that the family plans to visit the bank once it reopens.
The woman, identified as Sita, said she had no idea how the money was credited. “We don’t know how this money came. Whoever it belongs to should take it back,” she said.
Her husband, Farzan, also maintained that the family has no claim over the amount. “When the bank opens, we will go and return the money,” he said, noting that they rely on agriculture for their livelihood.
Video Goes Viral, Bank Calls It Technical Error
Meanwhile, a video of the ATM balance check has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Officials at the Bank of India’s Sultanganj branch attributed the incident to a “technical error”. The branch manager stated that the woman had an existing loan account and the issue could have been resolved earlier if she had approached the bank.
The incident has sparked discussion over banking system accuracy, with authorities expected to investigate and rectify the discrepancy.
