Residents across Assam have been advised to remain alert as the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) in Guwahati has issued warnings of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in several parts of the state today.
According to the forecast, a few districts have been placed under an Orange Alert, signalling the possibility of severe weather conditions. These include Udalguri, Baksa, Nalbari, and Barpeta. These areas are likely to experience heavy rain along with lightning, thunder, and strong winds reaching speeds of 70–80 km/h.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for several other districts, including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, Sribhumi, and West Karbi Anglong. These regions may witness moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Additionally, districts such as Sonitpur, Darrang, Tamulpur, Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Bajali, Goalpara, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar are also under Yellow Alert, with chances of rain and thunder activity.
Wind speeds are expected to vary across regions. In districts like Chirang, Kamrup, and Kamrup Metropolitan, winds may reach 30–40 km/h. However, in several lower Assam districts—including Udalguri, Darrang, Tamulpur, Baksa, Bajali, Barpeta, Nalbari, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar—stronger winds of up to 60–70 km/h are likely.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also indicated that heavy rainfall is expected across the state through the day, with particular concern for districts already under Orange Alert.
Authorities have urged residents to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and take necessary safety precautions, especially in areas vulnerable to strong winds and lightning.
