Ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, Sumit Sattawan, Tinsukia District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner, chaired a key meeting with contesting candidates and their representatives from all six Assembly constituencies in the district.
The meeting, held at the DC office conference hall, focused on detailed briefings on election guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, with particular emphasis on the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Officials sensitised candidates about compliance requirements and the legal framework governing election procedures.
Addressing the gathering, the District Election Officer urged all political parties and candidates to strictly follow the Model Code of Conduct and ensure there are no violations within the district. He stressed the need for collective responsibility to ensure peaceful, free, and fair elections, adding that divisive or inflammatory activities must be avoided.
He also cautioned leaders against making provocative remarks or personal attacks that could trigger tension or disrupt law and order. Political parties were asked to fully cooperate with the district administration and police to ensure smooth election conduct.
Officials informed that enforcement agencies, including the police, expenditure monitoring teams, and flying squads, would remain on high alert during the MCC period. The meeting also covered the use of the cVIGIL app for reporting election-related complaints and the Suvidha app for obtaining prior permissions for rallies, public meetings, and other campaign activities.
Observers appointed for various constituencies—including general, expenditure, and police observers—along with senior district officials, were also present at the meeting.
