Dibrugarh district has completed its preparations for polling on April 9 across six Assembly constituencies, with officials detailing special arrangements to ensure accessibility in remote and riverine areas.
Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi said a total of 1,322 polling stations have been established in the district. Among them, five are located in riverine regions, where polling teams will travel via the Brahmaputra to reach voters. Necessary transport and logistical arrangements have been made to enable residents in these areas to cast their votes within their villages.
A key highlight this year is the rise in women-managed polling stations. Around 300 booths will be operated entirely by women staff, reflecting increased participation and confidence among female personnel during training sessions, officials noted.
The district administration has focused on strengthening last-mile connectivity in challenging terrains while ensuring inclusive voter participation. Authorities aim to conduct a smooth and efficient polling process with minimal disruption.
At the state level, the Election Commission of India conducted an online review and training session on March 25 with District Election Officers, police officials, and other senior authorities to assess overall preparedness for the Assembly elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had earlier emphasised that polling in Assam must be conducted in a violence-free, intimidation-free, and inducement-free environment, allowing voters to exercise their franchise without fear.
Officials reviewed crucial aspects such as polling station facilities, EVM management, logistics, staff training, law and order arrangements, and voter awareness initiatives. District authorities have been directed to distribute Voter Information Slips at least five days ahead of polling, along with voter guides for every household. Braille-enabled slips will also be provided for visually impaired voters.
Special emphasis has been placed on safety and rescue measures in riverine areas, considering the unique geographical challenges in parts of the state.
Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4.
