The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday, March 23, released its first list of 21 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
The list, issued by the party’s central committee and signed by General Secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey, features candidates from Upper Assam as well as other key regions, indicating JMM’s intent to emerge as a significant contender in the state’s multi-cornered electoral contest.
Among the prominent names are Priti Rekha Barla from Mazbat, Teharu Gour from Biswanath, Amit Nag from Khumtai, and Bhubem Murari from Chabua. The list also includes Phedicrson Hasda (Gossaigaon), Baldev Teli (Sonari), Peter Minj (Duliajan), and Paban Sautal (Rangonadi).
Other candidates named are Bharat Nayak (Digboi), Prabhat Das Panika (Bhergaon), Mahabir Baske (Tingkhong), Abdul Mazan (Barchalla), Mathew Topno (Rangapara), Jernail Minj (Margherita), Sanjay Bagh (Naharkatia), Muna Karmakar (Makum), Ratnakar Tati (Doomdooma), Sahil Munda (Sapekhati), and Sonia (Titabor).
For the reserved Bokaijan (ST) constituency, the party has fielded Pratapchandra Rangphar, while Prabhakar Das has been nominated from Khowang.
Political observers note that JMM’s focus on these 21 constituencies appears to be aimed at attracting support from tribal and tea garden communities, where the party could find social and ideological backing. By fielding candidates from diverse backgrounds, JMM is looking to expand its presence beyond its traditional base in Jharkhand.
