ATTSA Margherita branch president Ananta Ghatowar and secretary Manoj Tanti stated that several educated youths from the Tea Tribe community are currently employed in tea estates on a voucher basis and continue working even after reaching retirement age.
They alleged that the continued engagement of such retired workers is affecting fresh recruitment and denying eligible educated youths access to job opportunities in the tea estates of the region.
“We demand that all retired voucher staff in tea estates under the Margherita branch be released within this month so that recruitment of new educated youths can begin without delay,” Ghatowar said.
The student organisation warned that if the issue is not resolved, it may launch large-scale protests and agitations in support of unemployed Tea Tribe youth in Margherita.
ATTSA added that it is seeking immediate intervention to ensure fair employment practices and better opportunities for the younger generation in the tea garden sector.
