The Kamrup District Administration on April 20 convened an important meeting with contesting candidates and their representatives to assess preparations for the counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly elections.

The meeting took place at the District Commissioner’s Office in Amingaon and was chaired by District Commissioner and District Election Officer Deba Kumar Mishra. He briefed those present on the counting procedures and guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India.

Officials stated that vote counting for all six Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in the district will be conducted at Amingaon on May 4. The DC emphasised that only authorised counting agents will be permitted inside the counting halls.

Mishra noted that preparations are already in progress and stressed the need for strict adherence to prescribed norms to ensure a smooth and transparent counting process.

District Development Commissioner Sushanta Kumar Dutta highlighted key aspects of preparedness, including the timely submission of details related to counting agents and necessary logistical arrangements.

The meeting also discussed arrangements such as the setup and allocation of counting tables.

Senior Superintendent of Police Subhasish Baruah, along with additional deputy commissioners, returning officers, the election officer, assistant commissioners, and other senior officials, attended the meeting.
