Ahead of the upcoming elections, senior leader Rabindra Mushahary of the United People’s Party Liberal has joined the Bodoland People’s Front.
Mushahary, who is a founding vice president of the UPPL and a former central vice president of the All Bodo Students Union, joined the BPF in the presence of Charan Boro, MLA from Majbat and a minister, who welcomed him by presenting the party’s traditional scarf.
His official induction ceremony is scheduled for March 18, when BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary will formally welcome him into the party.
After joining the BPF, Mushahary strongly criticised his former party, stating that the people of Bodoland are no longer willing to support the UPPL. He said that in the present political scenario, the BPF is the only party capable of ensuring social and political progress in the region.
He also alleged that the UPPL has been completely rejected by the people of Bodoland and claimed that the National Democratic Alliance is likely to retain control of 15 constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Council.
Mushahary further expressed confidence about the party’s prospects in Udalguri, describing the BPF as “unstoppable” in the current political landscape.
