AGP Vice President Ranjit Deka Resigns After Ticket Snub

Dr Ranjit Deka, vice president of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has resigned from the party after being denied a ticket for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. In his resignation letter addressed to the party leadership, Deka stated that he has stepped down from both his primary membership and all organisational responsibilities, citing “personal reasons, ideological differences, and changing political circumstances.”

In his communication, Deka said the decision was taken after careful consideration and was not influenced by any external pressure. A long-time member of the AGP, he acknowledged the opportunities he received during his tenure but indicated growing dissatisfaction with the party’s current direction.

According to sources in political circles, the denial of a party ticket played a key role in his resignation. Deka was reportedly seeking nomination from the Bajali constituency but was not included in the party’s final list of candidates, leading to discontent among his supporters.

observers note growing unease within party ranks

Observers view the development as part of a broader pattern of internal unrest within the AGP ahead of the elections. Deka’s resignation highlights a widening gap between senior leaders and the party’s evolving political strategy.

While maintaining a measured tone in his resignation, Deka hinted at a disconnect with the party’s present course, reflecting concerns that have been building within sections of the organisation.
