The Indian National Congress has announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections, as political preparations intensify in the state ahead of the polls. The list was released by the party’s Central Election Committee.
In this round, the Congress has declared 23 candidates for various constituencies across Assam. Among those named are Kartik Chandra Ray from Golakganj, Wazed Ali Choudhury from Birsing Jarua and Amrit Badsha from Bilasipara. Mohibur Rohman will contest from Mankachar, while Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam has been nominated from Goalpara East.
Other candidates include Kishor Kumar Brahma from Dudhnai (ST), Nurul Islam from Srijangram, Abdul Khaleque from Mandia and Rakibuddin Ahmed from Chamaria. Pranjit Choudhury has been fielded from Rangia, while Kishore Kumar Baruah will contest from Dimoria (SC).
In the Guwahati region, the party has nominated Santanu Borah as its candidate from New Guwahati. Other nominees include Rijumoni Talukdar from Mangaldai, Jhilli Choudhury from Hojai, Batash Urang from Dhekiajuli and Kartik Chandra Kurmi from Rangapara.
The party has also fielded Dr Sankar Jyoti Kutum from Gohpur, Sailen Sonowal from Dhemaji (ST), Devid Phukan from Tinsukia and Bipul Gogoi from Tingkhong.
Among the remaining nominees, Sagorika Bora will contest from Dergaon, Dhrubjyoti Purkayastha from Dholai (SC) and Aminur Rashid Choudhury from Karimganj South.
Meanwhile, the Congress has left several constituencies open for its alliance partners. These include Bhowanipur-Sorbhog, Bajali, Palasbari, Guwahati Central, Goreswar, Morigaon, Barhampur, Binnakandi, Behali, Sadiya, Dibrugarh, Khowang, Sarupathar, Diphu and Amri.
