Amid ongoing polling in Assam, Congress candidate from Nazira, Debabrata Saikia, has alleged irregularities and accused the Election Commission of India of bias.
Saikia confronted a Booth Level Officer (BLO) at a polling station in Nazira, identifying her as Monika Das, and alleged that she was carrying an identity card displaying the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
According to Saikia, the presence of such an ID inside the polling station amounted to an attempt to influence voters and violated election norms.
“This is completely unfair. This is the kind of thing BJP does to pressurise voters. I saw her loitering around since morning and asked who she was. She said she was a BLO. Since a BLO is a government official, she should remain inside the booth. And since campaigning is over, having an ID card with a BJP symbol is completely undemocratic,” he said.
He further added, “Her name is Monika Das according to her ID card. She is a BJP worker and has been loitering around since early morning, which is not acceptable. This is a democracy.”
Saikia said he raised the matter with the Presiding Officer and demanded that she be removed from the polling station.
Following the confrontation, the woman reportedly left the polling station premises.
