Assam Elections: Polling Officer Dies, Voter Collapses in Queue

In a tragic development during the ongoing Assam Assembly elections 2026, a polling officer died while on duty at a polling station in Sootea’s Dolapani area.

The incident occurred at polling station number 230 in the Noduwar constituency. The second polling officer, Deven Horo, who was also a teacher from Rongapara, fell ill at the polling station in the morning.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was declared dead on the way.

Despite the incident, local authorities ensured that voting continued smoothly, making necessary arrangements to keep the polling process on track.

Earlier, a voter also collapsed and died while standing in a queue at a polling station in the Gauripur constituency of Dhubri district. The incident took place at polling station number 2108, Mora Gadhadhar Char LP School, where voters were waiting to cast their ballots. The deceased was identified as Babar Ali (54).
