Bidisha Neog Injured in Alleged Attack, FIR Filed Against BJP Workers

Indian National Congress candidate from Jalukbari, Bidisha Neog, has lodged an FIR at Jalukbari Police Station alleging multiple violent attacks by workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on her campaign convoy along the Maligaon–Pandu stretch on April 1.

In her complaint, Neog said she had obtained all necessary permissions for campaigning and was travelling with her team from Borjhar via Azara towards Maligaon. However, near Pandu, her convoy was allegedly stopped by BJP workers positioned at a temporary roadside office. She claimed her team was prevented from moving forward, verbally abused using obscene language, and threatened.

According to Neog, in an effort to avoid escalation, her team altered their route. Despite this, she alleged that the same group intercepted them again at several points, including near Pandu College Gate and Aruna Cinema Hall. She claimed the attackers, carrying BJP flags and raising slogans in the name of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, carried out repeated assaults on her convoy.

She further alleged that her supporters—including women and elderly members—were attacked with sticks, rods, and other objects. Several vehicles in the convoy were vandalised, with broken glass and extensive damage reported. Bike riders accompanying the convoy were also targeted, forcing some to abandon their vehicles and flee.

Neog stated that she was physically assaulted and suffered injuries, while her husband and several party workers were seriously hurt. She also alleged that women in her team faced harassment, with some claiming their clothes were torn during the incident.

She added that the attackers issued direct death threats during the violence, shouting “kill me” and threatening to kill her and her supporters.

Despite police presence at the scene, Neog alleged that the attackers were not effectively restrained and, at one point, outnumbered the personnel deployed. Following the incident, she and her team sought treatment at Central Hospital in Maligaon.

The Congress leader also claimed that she and her team were threatened with severe consequences, including threats to her life, if she continued campaigning or contested the election.

Neog informed the police that the entire incident had been captured on video and said she is prepared to submit it as evidence. She has urged authorities to identify those responsible, take strict legal action, and ensure protection for her and her team.

In her FIR, she also requested police to review CCTV footage from the area and investigate individuals operating from the temporary roadside office along the Adabari–Pandu road, where she alleged the attackers were based.
