At least 10 people lost their lives and more than 40 others were injured after a massive explosion tore through a power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Tuesday. The incident occurred at a facility operated by Vedanta Limited in Singhitarai village during the afternoon, according to police officials.
Preliminary findings indicate that the blast was triggered by a boiler tube failure, resulting in a powerful explosion that caused extensive casualties and major structural damage within the plant. Authorities fear that several workers may still be trapped under the debris, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.
Following the incident, police, fire services, and local administration teams rushed to the site and initiated large-scale rescue operations. Emergency responders are continuing efforts to clear the debris and search for survivors who may be trapped inside the facility.
Those injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals, with several reported to be in critical condition. Medical teams have been put on high alert to manage the situation.
Senior officials have reached the site to oversee the response, and an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the damage.
