The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on April 8 filed formal complaints against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging that he made remarks comparing the ideology of the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party to a “poisonous snake.”
According to reports, the complaints were lodged at two police stations in Assam—Dispur Police Station in North Assam and Silchar Police Station in South Assam—seeking legal action against Kharge for statements described as “derogatory, provocative, and sensitive in a communal context.”
The RSS expressed serious concern over the remarks, stating that such language is inflammatory and could incite hostility, intimidation, or even violence against its members and supporters, as well as those associated with the BJP.
The organisation alleged that Kharge made the comments during an election rally in Nilambazar and warned that such statements could provoke hostility toward RSS workers and supporters. It further cautioned that the remarks could escalate communal tensions and disrupt public peace during the ongoing election period.
The complaints were submitted by Khagen Saikia, RSS North Assam secretary, and Jyotsnamoy Chakraborty, RSS South Assam secretary. The organisation also noted that Kharge’s statements may fall under provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, raising concerns over possible electoral misconduct and intimidation.
Additionally, the RSS stated that portraying its ideology and that of the BJP in such terms could be interpreted as encouraging harm against its members. It added that such remarks risk widening communal divisions between Hindu and Muslim communities, potentially impacting public order and the electoral environment in the state.
