Ahead of the Assembly elections in Assam, the commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), along with the finalisation of candidates for all 126 constituencies, has been completed, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, said on Sunday.

In total, 41,320 Ballot Units (BU), 43,975 Control Units (CU), and 43,997 VVPATs have been commissioned for the polls, which will be conducted in a single phase on April 9 across the state. These figures include reserve machines that will be deployed, if required, across 31,490 polling stations.

According to an official statement, the commissioning exercise was carried out from March 31 to April 4 at locations pre-notified by the respective District Election Officers (DEOs).

The process was conducted in the presence of contesting candidates or their authorised representatives to ensure transparency and strict adherence to established guidelines, the CEO’s office stated.

It further added that authorised engineers and technical experts from the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. assisted in the commissioning process to ensure accurate configuration and reliable functioning of the machines.
