BJP Workers Won’t Back Own Candidate in Dispur: Mira Borthakur

The Indian National Congress candidate for the Dispur Assembly seat Mira Borthakur Goswami has urged voters to give her a chance to serve, saying she is committed to addressing key issues faced by residents of the constituency.

Speaking during her campaign, Goswami said public support would allow her to tackle long-pending problems and ensure effective governance in Dispur. She also made a strong political remark, claiming that even workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party may not support their own candidate in the constituency.

Referring to the issue surrounding Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, Goswami said her election to the Assembly would help in ensuring justice. “To give justice to Zubeen Garg, we must get elected to the legislative assembly. After being elected, I will work to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg,” she stated.

Her comments come amid intensifying political rhetoric ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, with candidates increasingly highlighting emotive and public-centric issues to strengthen voter support.

Meanwhile, former Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi has expressed gratitude to the BJP after being named its candidate for the Dispur constituency, shortly after resigning from the Congress and joining the party.
