Ashok Singhal’s Nomination Under Scanner After Congress Complaint

Allegations have been raised against Dhekiajuli BJP candidate and minister Ashok Singhal, with Congress candidate Batash Orang filing a formal complaint citing multiple discrepancies in Singhal’s nomination papers for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections 2026.

According to the complaint submitted to the election officer, four key irregularities have been highlighted in the minister’s nomination form:

  • Missing Identification: The nomination form at Serial No. 4 is reportedly without a photograph.
  • Tampered Documents (Page 2): It is alleged that Page No. 2 of the form (covering Serial Nos. 1 to 4) has been “completely cut.”
  • Tampered Documents (Page 3): A specific paragraph related to the “or” option on Page No. 3 is also alleged to have been cut out.
  • Incomplete Information: Serial No. 2 of the form reportedly leaves the “Name of State” field blank.
  • In view of these issues, Batash Orang has urged the election authorities to cancel Ashok Singhal’s nomination, citing procedural violations.
  • The Returning Officer is expected to examine the objections in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI). If the discrepancies are found to be “substantial” or “non-curable,” the BJP candidate’s nomination could be rejected.
