Rally‘Land Belongs to People’: Rahul Gandhi Hits Out at BJP in Assam

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Biswanath to address a public rally, drawing enthusiastic participation from party workers and supporters. At the start of his speech, he paid tribute to Srimanta Sankardev and Zubeen Garg. Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi welcomed him warmly on stage.

During his address, Gandhi underscored the importance of unity and inclusivity in Assam, drawing inspiration from cultural icons such as Sankardev, Zubeen Garg, and Tarun Gogoi. “This land belongs to Shankar Dev, Azan Pir, ZubeenGarg, and Tarun Gogoi,” he said, adding that Assam’s strength lies in its diversity, where people of different languages, faiths, and communities coexist like a flourishing garden.

He also criticised the BJP government and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging preferential land allotments to large corporates and raising concerns about the welfare of farmers. “The land of Assam belongs to its people, not to industrialists or outsiders. We will ensure fairness and justice,” he said. Gandhi further targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing to alleged corruption involving top leaders and vowing to fight for transparency and accountability.

He further stated that, “We are clearly saying that we will give SC/ST status to Assam’s 6 communities… We have also clearly mentioned in the manifesto that we will give Rs 450 per day to the tea workers…” “As soon as we form the government in Assam, we will implement the six decisions taken for Assam. Every woman will receive a monthly cash transfer into her bank account without any conditions, and those who want to start a business will be given Rs 50,000. We guarantee that within 100 days, we will punish the accused in the Zubeen Garg case, and action will be taken”

Gandhi also promised a range of welfare measures, including financial support for women to start small businesses, land rights for families, and health insurance coverage of up to Rs 25 lakh per household. He urged voters to support the Congress and its alliance, stressing the party’s commitment to the poor and marginalised.

In his speech, Gaurav Gogoi called for unity to build a “new Assam,” inspired by the ideals of the state’s past leaders.
