UPPL Won’t Secure Even One Seat in BTC, Says Hagrama Mohilary

Senior Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Hagrama Mohilary has intensified his election campaign, addressing rallies across several constituencies in Kokrajhar district.

Mohilary campaigned in Dotma, Kokrajhar, and Baokhungri, seeking support for NDA-backed BPF candidates. In the Bismuri area of Kokrajhar constituency, he addressed a large gathering in favour of his wife and party candidate Sewli Mohilary.

During the rally, he urged voters to support NDA candidates in the interest of peace and development in the region. He expressed confidence that the alliance would win all 15 seats in the BTC region and form a strong government in Assam with at least 100 seats.

He also said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to return to power, asserting that a stable government under his leadership is inevitable.

Emphasising the need for stability, Mohilary stated that development is only possible in a peaceful environment. He added that people in the BTC region prioritise peace and called for a respectful political atmosphere without unnecessary hostility.

Targeting the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Mohilary accused it of failing to deliver on development promises over the past five years. He claimed the party would not win any seats in the upcoming elections and asserted that the NDA faces no real competition across the 15 BTC constituencies.

He also responded to what he termed misinformation in the Baokhungri constituency. Referring to independent candidate Rajiv Kumar Brahma, Mohilary clarified that the official BPF nominee is Rupam Chandra Roy. He cautioned voters against being misled and alleged that Brahma lacks public backing.

Mohilary further stated that even if Brahma seeks to return to the BPF after the elections, the party would not accept him.

Reiterating the party’s agenda, he said the BPF is committed to ensuring equal rights and development for all communities in the BTC region, stressing that no group should be left behind and promising faster development.

The campaign programmes were attended by several leaders, including Adivasi Development Council Vice Chairman Subhash Tirkey, BJP district president Gosai Basumatary, BTC executive members Derhasang Basumatary and Prakash Basumatary, along with party workers.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Rajiv Kumar Brahma responded to Mohilary’s remarks, saying that the mention of his name by the BPF leader reflects his rising influence. He said the Baokhungri contest would be a triangular fight between the BPF, UPPL, and himself, and expressed confidence of winning.
